Smaller Footprints
The goal of Smaller Footprints is to provide programs that help First Parish Members and Friends live out the UU 7th Principle: Respect for the Inter-dependent Web of Life. Smaller Footprints activities provide the opportunity to:
- Learn more about Global Warming and easy action steps to take as individuals.
- Work on CO2 reduction projects in community with each other.
Some past projects and activities include:
- Global Warming information dissemination in Focalpoint and in a hand-out
- Distribution of a free CFL bulb to congregants one Sunday with information on the benefits of CFLs over regular bulbs (lower energy use, less costly overall)
- A “Conservation Demonstration Project” where teams of FP members and friends competed to reduce home energy use the most
- A community lecture on global warming by reknowned environmentalist Bill McKibben
- Two global warming related adult ed courses
- A holiday “Swap” of gently used items and exchange of alternative gift-giving ideas
- A “Green Sanctuary” project where participants discuss
how we can reduce the energy footprint of our church home
