Combat Global Warming: Smaller Footprints |
|
|
|
|
The goal of the Smaller Footprints program is to develop and provide initiatives that help First Parish members and friends live out the Unitarian Universalist 7th Principle: Respect for the Interdependent web of life. Smaller Footprints activities provide the opportunity to:
-
Learn more about Global Warming and easy action steps to take as individuals.
-
Work on CO2 reduction projects in community with each other.
Some past projects and activities include:
-
Global Warming information dissemination in Focalpoint and in a hand-out
-
Distribution of a free CFL (energy-efficient) bulb to congregants one Sunday with information on the benefits of CFLs over regular bulbs (lower energy use, less costly overall)
-
A “Conservation Demonstration Project” where teams of FP members and friends competed to reduce home energy use the most
-
A community lecture on global warming by renowned environmentalist and author Bill McKibben
-
Two global warming related adult education courses
-
A holiday “gift swap” of gently-used items and exchange of alternative gift-giving ideas
-
A “Green Sanctuary” project where participants discussed how we can reduce the energy footprint of our church home
