Combat Global Warming: Smaller Footprints PDF Print E-mail

The goal of the Smaller Footprints program is to develop and provide initiatives that help First Parish members and friends live out the Unitarian Universalist 7th Principle: Respect for the Interdependent web of life. Smaller Footprints activities provide the opportunity to:

  • Learn more about Global Warming and easy action steps to take as individuals.
  • Work on CO2 reduction projects in community with each other.

Some past projects and activities include:

  • Global Warming information dissemination in Focalpoint and in a hand-out
  • Distribution of a free CFL (energy-efficient) bulb to congregants one Sunday with information on the benefits of CFLs over regular bulbs (lower energy use, less costly overall)
  • A “Conservation Demonstration Project” where teams of FP members and friends competed to reduce home energy use the most
  • A community lecture on global warming by renowned environmentalist and author Bill McKibben
  • Two global warming related adult education courses
  • A holiday “gift swap” of gently-used items and exchange of alternative gift-giving ideas
  • A “Green Sanctuary” project where participants discussed how we can reduce the energy footprint of our church home
