Sunday School at First Parish

Welcome to Sunday school programs at First Parish in Lexington! In our religious education classes, we help children to make meaning of their experiences within our framework of Unitarian Universalism. At First Parish we utilize a "rotational theme" model of religious education, meaning that we choose a yearlong theme each year, and that theme is repeated every three years. This year the focus for Sunday mornings will be Unitarian Universalist Identity. Next year's theme will be Judeo-Christian Heritage. The third year we'll do World Religions. Then the cycle repeats.

Adults who teach will be on the same journey as the children, learning about themselves. Teachers usually learn as much as, or more than, the children and youth by participating in the process of wondering that can happen in a classroom.  Our staff supports this process, and those who give their time and talents to the children and youth.

Of course, for children there's more to First Parish than just Sunday school classes that happen two to three Sundays per month. All children and youth attend the first twenty minutes of the Sunday morning worship service. Once a month, they also have their own worship service downstairs and one Sunday when they work on social justice projects.
